Millions of women and men have experienced the gradually increasing visibility of light red or blue veins, called spider veins, just below the skin. Though the development of spider veins is a common condition, it is nevertheless an aesthetic issue that many people try to cover, hide, or otherwise eliminate. Dr. Nolis Arkoulakis and Dr. Lee Elber offer treatments for spider veins removal, including the CoolGlide® laser therapy and sclerotherapy, at their Edison, New Jersey practice. Contact Aesthetic Solutions today and schedule a free and private consultation.
Spider veins removal using the CoolGlide® 1064 laser is a safe, effective alternative to sclerotherapy. The CoolGlide® 1064 laser harnesses the power of light energy to coagulate the blood in the spider veins, causing them to be destroyed and safely reabsorbed into the body.
Unlike the sclerotherapy treatment, the CoolGlide® therapy does not utilize needles. However, some patients may feel a slight stinging sensation from the short bursts of light energy that are emitted by the CoolGlide® handpiece. Patients will also experience some redness and irritation after the treatment. In extreme cases, patients may find some bruising on the areas that were targeted for spider veins removal.
Sclerotherapy is one of the most effective and commonly used treatments for minimizing the prominence of spider veins. The sclerotherapy procedure is performed in our Edison, New Jersey office and is relatively painless. Either Dr. Arkoulakis or Dr. Elber will use a small needle to inject a fluid solution directly into the spider veins. The solution is formulated to cause the veins to close. A single therapy session may consist of anywhere between 10 and 50 injections, depending on the severity of the condition, and can take between 30 minutes and an hour.
Understandably, many patients are concerned with the amount of pain associated with a treatment that makes use of injections. Patients undergoing sclerotherapy are injected using very thin needles so that they feel very little, if any, discomfort during the treatment. After the treatment session, however, patients will experience irritation and redness that can last between a few days and a few weeks. Patients are advised to keep the treatment areas compressed for several days after the session with compression bandages, and they may be recommended to wear heavy support hose.
